The Downside of Being an Adult

People always tell you how hard it is to be an adult. I'm currently 29 years old and have been working for five years, and I have to say, I couldn't agree more. But it's not the fact that I have to work with little time off nor the taxes, bills and administration I have to deal with; it's the conflict between people. When I was in school, everyone sincerely wanted the best for me, and maybe I just wasn't aware of what difficult situations some people might be facing. Now, I feel like people just care about gossip and some of them even want to see the world burn.

Conflicts are not about what the best solution is, but about what the best solution is for the individual, and how they can show themselves in the best light in order to get that pay raise at the end of the year. Information and favors are used as currency and you better play the game! And if you happen to care for the community, you're branded as someone who doesn't work hard enough.

Sorry for this alarmist text -- I had a bad day at work and am happy I have this lovely community.

I really don't mean to drag you down with me! Have a nice day!
