People always tell you how hard it is to be an adult. I'm currently 29 years old and have been working for five years, and I have to say, I couldn't agree more. But it's not the fact that I have to work with little time off nor the taxes, bills and administration I have to deal with; it's the conflict between people. When I was in school, everyone sincerely wanted the best for me, and maybe I just wasn't aware of what difficult situations some people might be facing. Now, I feel like people just care about gossip and some of them even want to see the world burn.
Conflicts are not about what the best solution is, but about what the best solution is for the individual, and how they can show themselves in the best light in order to get that pay raise at the end of the year. Information and favors are used as currency and you better play the game! And if you happen to care for the community, you're branded as someone who doesn't work hard enough.

Sorry for this alarmist text -- I had a bad day at work and am happy I have this lovely community.
I really don't mean to drag you down with me! Have a nice day!

I’m not sure why “Perks” is in the title if this post is about the downsides of adulting.
I agree. This is more about the downside [singular] of being an adult
Don't let people bring you down, Linda! There's a saying in Russian: Собаки лают, караван идёт (The dogs bark, but the caravan moves on).
Linda, I have something to cheer you up. It's a YT channel. I promise you'll love it. If you don't, I'm going to be sad. Watch the stories. https://www.youtube.com/@Lionfield
Since you're German, you can't miss this video: https://youtu.be/UVaC3f3IE-E?feature=shared
@CocoPop Is the caravan Dutch?
😂
@JGComm and @CocoPop, Oh shoot, I was convinced perk meant downside :o
😂
@CocoPop It's said that this saying was originally Arabic and was adopted into other languages. :) "الكلاب تنبح والقافلة تسير"
Wow! I had no idea. That's so interesting!
Quite a passionate text, but understandably so. The observations you have put into words (especially about the currency and values in the last paragraph) are to the point. Of course, the reality is not all black and white, and we are not all the same, there is hope. // Thank you for all the unpaid work you're doing here! We appreciate you very much.
