Last week, I began reading a short novel from the beginning of the Sixties, by a US author. It's funny how I'm getting a good deal of useful tips about literature on Twitter lately--not in a few cases, authors and books I hadn't heard of before. This time, there was a thread of people giving a list of short novels they would recommend. I guess I also put my five cents of titles there, but I was pretty curious about the stuff other people were picking out.

I'm well into this book now, I set to read it without seeking further information about the author, nor the plot. I don't even know if the story was made into film later, although I deem it likely, since there are many eerie elements in it. Being a title that's wholly new to me, I prefer engaging with the story like this, provided the text captures me during--say--the first 10 or 20 pages. Well, whatever, it's not very easy to tell the number of pages in today's digital copies!

I think I'll share some comments here when I finish it. It must be a little literary classic. It seems I'm reading a lot of great short novels written by women lately.
