My Hand-painted Incense Burner

by

Today, I'd like to show you my hand-painted incense burner. When I started working on it, it was still spring, so I designed it with cherry blossoms inspired by the Heian period (794 to 1185). I wanted to paint some typical scenes from that period through the cherry blossoms, and I think I did a good job.

However, this porcelain piece caused several problems, and I had to fix them. I wrote about two problems on my previous post, so if you're curious, please visit this entry. I could layer on paints on the rid without any chipping, so I could solve one problem, but I still need to repair the joint between the body and one of the legs. Once I repair the part, I'll show you my completely perfect piece again.

I took lots of step-by-step photos during the process, and I'm happy to share them with you here.

Although I started this piece in the spring, it's already summer, which means it took me four months to complete it.

Thank you for taking a look at the end of this post.
