It's happened! After eight years of creating shared memories, my phone has finally left me.
It's strange, isn't it? How can someone feel attached to an inanimate object? Well, I don't. I'm not mourning or anything. All right, all right. You could say I'm getting a bit emotional. It just feels weird. Phones are practically an extension of ourselves. We pour our entire lives into these devices. We run our lives through them.
My phone was an old Redmi Note 5. There was nothing special about this phone. Except for the fact that it contained all my data...
Get yourself comfy because this is quite the story.
It all started in 2007 when Steve Jobs...just kidding. A few years ago, my phone's screen started having issues. It would freeze, and the touchscreen wouldn't work. I would find myself locked out of my phone because I couldn't enter my PIN. "No problem!" my ingenious mind would say. "I've got your back! Just reboot your phone, and it'll be like brand new." And so it was every single time. Sometimes I could kiss my mind! [This is a reference to a British TV series. If you have a problem with this line, you have a problem with me, buddy!]
Unfortunately, one day the unthinkable happened. That day, I went for a jog. I'd put my phone in the back pocket of my jacket. Suddenly, while I was running, I felt my phone shoot out of my pocket and I turned around just in time to see it crash onto the hard sidewalk. It was a split second, yet it felt like an eternity. Being Italian born and bread, I may or may not have cursed every animate and inanimate object in the world. Lord, forgive me for I am nothing but a fool!
As a result of the fall, the power button got damaged. It still worked, but it was very glitchy. My brilliant mind said, "Fear not, my valid friend! Just remove the lock screen and use the down volume button to wake up the screen. Who needs a power button anyway?!"
Yeah...who needs a power button? Said no one ever!
Long story short, a few days ago, I needed to do something on my phone that required the lock screen to be enabled. As I was setting it up, my phone. froze. and locked itself. OMG!
I tried everything to unlock it, but nothing worked. My phone is gone forever.
I think you can probably guess what the real underlying problem is. Being a lazy bastard, I'd never backed up my data. I could kiss my mind this ass!
So, folks, don't be as stupid as me. Remember to make backups and to turn on "debugging USB" in your settings.
Please, I'd really appreciate it if you could spare a prayer for my phone as it embarks on its final journey.
Goodbye, my dear phone. You will be missed.
I want my photos with nonna back 😭😭😭.

Oh no! Your pictures with your grandmother! Doesn’t your phone have a SIM card?
I'm so sorry, I can feel your pain!!
@CocoPop I think you meant "an SD card." Sd cards are for storage, while SIM cards are for network connectivity. In any case, my phone has an SD card. Some photos of my nonna were saved on the SD card. Unfortunately, I won't be able to recover the 60GB of data stored in the internal memory.
Thanks for reading and for your much-appreciated corrections!
@OMI Thanks! The thing is, this isn't the first time that this has happened. It's the fourth time I've lost data on a phone.
Rest in peace.....
