Are you enjoying watching the Winter Olympic games? Although I prefer doing sports over watching others compete, I only check the competition results. I think the Team Japan is doing great.

Today, I'd like to introduce an American Olympian, Nick Baumgartner, to you. He's my close American friend from Michigan's cousin, and I've been cheering for him for years. At the previous Olympic games, he won a gold medal at the age of 40, and he became the eldest snowboard-cross gold medalist.

This time, he turned 44 and is still challenging himself. Unfortunately, he ended up the 7th place this time, but he's never given up! In an interview, he said that he'd love to keep going! What an amazing guy!

I don't think he completes just for medals, and he's been enjoying challenging himself. It's easy to guess how difficult it must be for an athlete in his forties to compete against athletes in their twenties. Even though he finished the 7th place and lost the semifinal by just 0.08 seconds, the athlete who bet him won a gold medal.

He's one of the people whom I've been inspired by. It doesn't matter how old you are. If you really want to do something, all you need is a strong will and grit (the skill to accomplish whatever you really want to do). I really hope he'll come back to the next Winter Olympic games! Go for it, Nick!!

You can read some news about him here.
