Celebrating 5,000th!!

Today, I finally posted my 5,000th journal entry in English! Yay!!

I started learning conversational English in 2009 to make my dreams come true. At the same time, I begun writing something to improve my comprehensive skills on Lang-8, which was a similar website like Journaly and closed in 2023. At that time, I never imagined I would write 5,000 journal entries at all. So, I'm so happy that I could achieve one of my goals.

I studied English at school as one of the regular subjects. Since I didn't major in languages at university ( my major was science), after graduating from high school, I stopped learning it. Until 2009, my life hadn't connected with English for a long time. One day, I spotted a beautiful horse painting on a porcelain tile online. The painting immediately caught my eye, and I really wanted to paint like that. I researched about the painter and found he would teach it in Arizona. I asked my husband if I could learn it, and he said if I could understand conversational English, he might think about it. Since then, it had become a huge motivation to start studying English again. I really wanted to make it, so I studied hard for two years and made my first dream come true.

You can read more details here. When you click the horse painting picture, you'll see the wider version too.

That's how my English learning journey began. When I first wrote in English, it took me a long time because I couldn't think anything in English. Back then, I translated everything what I wanted to say into English from Japanese. Now, even though I've still made plenty of mistakes, I don't need to translate. I spontaneously say something. I believe that writing in my target language has definitely improved both my speaking and writing skills. That's why I keep going!

Through writing in English for a long time, I learned that I can do anything I want to do if I have a strong will. All I need are determination and grits. I still have lots of dreams to make come true with English, so I keep learning it.
