Last week I found the dog in the above picture. She was in such bad shape that when my dog turned aside to smell something, I thought it was a dead cat, but then I noticed it was this particular dog I knew from our usual walks. She is a cocker or a half-breed with the looks of a cocker.

When we first saw her, she lived in a house with cats, but that house is empty now. I think her owner must have abandoned her when he left. She probably got hit by a car, although the street close to where I found her lying on the ground has little or no traffic.

Upon examination, the vet said she had a broken rib, but the legs still had feeling, which was encouraging. However, back at home, I noticed she (I will call her Cami from now on) could hardly walk. Her hind legs were almost useless. When I called the vet to tell her, she sent me an order for x-rays to check for spinal or pelvic fractures. So, we are waiting for Monday to find out what's wrong with her legs. Meanwhile, she isn't eating—I've been dabbing yogurt or honey on her gums just to give her a little nourishment. Fortunately she's drinking plenty of water. She perks up now and then, but I'm still worried about her back.
