Last month, a friend of mine and I went to a cafe together. Since the cafe looked so cute, I'd love to introduce it to you.
She ordered pan cakes and a cup of coffee while I ordered a New York cheesecake and coffee.
Look at these adorable cafe art! I almost didn't want to ruin it, but the coffee was too good to resist.
The cafe is in a neighboring city, and it was my first time visiting. My friend discovered it while we were walking. Since the shop looked so charming, we decided to check it out. Inside was filled with lots of artwork. The cafe owner told us that one of their regular customers is an illustrator who donated the paintings on the wall. He even created a picture book for the menu.
The menu book was so cute that I couldn’t resist taking some photos.
You can see the illustrator's portfolio in the top left corner. I became an instant fan of his work the moment I saw it.
Here is his Instagram: here
My friend and I ended up chatting for two hours. It felt like no time at all, but since the cafe had a time limit, we eventually had to leave.
Since I was curious about the illustrator, I looked him up online. After reading his biography, I felt like I could relate to his story. He once dreamed of becoming an artist but ended up giving up on that dream. He became a teacher after graduating collage. However, he still couldn't completely give up on his dream. At the age of 35, he finally quit his job. Since then, he's been working as an illustrator. I had a similar dream myself, but I never even went to art school because my parents were against it. I graduated with a science degree. Still, I couldn’t fully give up on my dream either. Even though I’ve been still figuring things out as an artist, here I am. I believe that if we really want to make our dreams come true, the key is to never give up.

Thank you, @yumiyumayume, for introducing me to the illustrator’s fanciful art. I also believe in never giving up on our dreams. With your determination and skills, you’ll realize them. I began my art journey nine years ago at the age of 69 when I enrolled in an online portrait painting class. My art has changed over the years to incorporate assemblage and mixed media art, but what is constant is the joy it brings me to be creative. While my recent medical issues have slowed me down a bit, I will go to my studio today for the first time in two months to do some art. Your posts are always inspiring and uplifting. Thank you for sharing your stories.
You are welcome, and thank you so much for reading, correcting and commenting on my post! Thank you for sharing your art journey as well! I love painting portraits too. I haven't painted portraits for a while, so I also want to paint one. Enjoy your art journey!
I'm jealous that Japan has so many locally owned unique coffee shops. This one seems so charming!
As if that's the menu! Wow, what fantastical art! The frog is super cute.
@Ersatzjello Thank you for reading. I'm sure when you go to Teramach in Kyoto, you'll find lots of cafes!
@via-chan Yes, the frog is really cute! I'm not a fan of real frogs, but painting them is always fun!
