I've lived in my current place about ten years. Even though it's in Osaka Prefecture, our area is quite rural. Although there are lots of reasons I love living here, one of the reasons is a small honesty box in front of our house. My neighbor sells vegetables and fruit every Monday and Friday morning, so I always look forward to it. Each organic item is only ¥100!! Since the box is quite popular among my neighborhood, I sometimes miss out on the products.
The picture below shows daikon ( Japanese radish), turnips and yuzu ( a type of Japanese citrus).
That day, I bought some turnips. The holes in the leaves show that bugs have been nibbling on them.
On another day, the box had hassaku ( another type of Japanese citrus). Every year I enjoy making marmalade from it. I'll write about that sometime soon.
I know another honesty box where I can buy high quality organic tomatoes too. I'll write about those too.
I love these honesty boxes because they're usually cheap and organic. Have you ever used one before?

I've never seen an honesty box before. What a good idea!
@schmamie I hope you'll see one some time soon!!
Does the photo mean that people take the product and leave the money there? There's no seller?
@Double-Zee Yes, it is unmanned roadside stand where farmers sell fresh produce. Customers take what they want and leave money in a box. Similar unmanned sales systems exist in other countries too :)
Thanks for the information, @Aki_! As far as I know, we don't have this kind of shop in Egypt!
This type of service does not exist in Spain, @yumiyumayume , although I have seen it in Northern Europe. In Spain, the sale always has staff who control the exchange of goods and money.
@druida Thank you for sharing. This type of business consists based on trust, so I sometimes see someone is stealing the items.
If I'm not wrong, the Netherlands does something similar for books, but it's free.
@Simone- Since I don't have any Dutch friends, I can't make it sure. But it sounds very interesting! Thank you for sharing.
