Hello there! Today, I'd like to share how to make fermented ginger with you.
Do you like ginger? I love it and use it a lot in my cooking . Making fermented ginger is quite simple.
Before explaining the process, let me share some benefits of fermented ginger
Benefits of Fermented Ginger:
Warms up the body
Boosts the immune systems
Helps prevent lifestyle-related diseases
Has anti-aging properties
Improves digestion and relieves constipation
Ingredients:
Fresh ginger ( I prefer organic ones since we grate them with the skin on )
A clean grass jar
A grater
Preparations:
Wash the ginger well and wipe it well.
Sterilize the glass jar (I usually steam it for about 5 minutes).
Instructions:
Grater the organic gingers ( I won’t specify an amount because it depends on how much you want to make ).
Keep grating, even if it gets a little messy!
Once you are done, place the grated ginger in the jar and fill it up.
Store the jar in the refrigerator and let it ferment for two weeks. Don't open the lid!
The picture below shows the fermented ginger. You can see that it has darkened slightly.
In the picture below, I used a small amount of fermented one as a topping for my homemade amazake. They go very well together.
Since fermented singer has a richer flavor, it might taste spicier than fresh ginger. You can use it in your cooking just like regular ginger.
I hope this tip is useful for you! Happy cooking!!

Thanks for the recipe, Yumi! We have powdered ginger. I think the fresh ginger in Egypt is imported. I will check whether I can get it and try your recipe!
How can I use fermented ginger apart from the amazake and cooking?
Hi ZZ. You're welcome, and I'm glad you're interested. You can use fermented ginger just like regular ginger.
I've just found this site and hope you find it useful: https://www.foodandwine.com/seasonings/spices/ginger/ginger-recipes

Title: How to make fermented ginger
I am too scared to ferment. But it looks delicious!
@Double-Zee You are welcome and enjoy cooking!
@hhh777 Thank you for pointing out the title. Fermenting ginger isn't difficult, and I hope you give it a try!
Thank you for sharing, Yumi @yumiyumayume . One of my hobbies is being in a choir and very often ginger helps us to keep our vocal cords in good condition. We usually eat it in the form of sweets when we have a sore throat.
Hi, @druida You have a wonderful hobby! What type of songs are you singing? I didn't know that ginger is good for our throats. Thank you for sharing!
Our choir is currently rehearsing the following scores:
Note: We are a modest choir and we participate in auditions in our autonomous community, @yumiyumayume .
Thank you so much for sharing, @druida! I enjoyed listening to everything and my favorite was no.3. I can imagine you are enjoying singing with people. It must be so much fun!
