The Walk #5

Synopsis: [This paragraph was proofread in the previous post.] It was assembly day at my high school, so we students left early. Due to increased demand and external circumstances, the public bus service was overloaded. Some of my classmates and I set off to find a bus stop where we would have a better chance of boarding a bus. However, it wasn’t long before it started to look like a wild goose chase.

When we reached the third bus stop, we decided to take a break and see how things would evolve. Obviously, we knew deep down that it was going to be very chaotic and crowded. Still, we really needed to take a breather. As time went by, more and more people arrived. After a while, a bus came into sight. Needless to say, it didn’t stop. This forced us to face the truth: we had to keep heading east. So off we set, sailing into uncharted waters.

By this time, fatigue had set in and was slowing us down. The extreme heat didn’t help things either, coupled with the fact we were also lugging backpacks. It felt like we were on a pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela. One of my classmates was sweating so much that his shirt was completely soaked. Throughout the walk, I kept looking back to see if anyone was following us. Luckily, we were the only ones crazy enough to embark on such an adventure.

After what seemed like an eternity, we reached the fourth bus stop. We were so relieved to find nobody there. After walking more than three kilometres, the last thing we wanted was another crowded bus stop. However, our newfound confidence was short-lived when after a half hour, not a single bus had passed. What’s more, we were no longer alone. At one point, I noticed a blurred shape in the distance. I squinted my eyes to try to make out what it was. The closer it got, the more it looked like…a bus?! I began to question myself. Was this a mirage? Nope, it was real! The bus pulled up and we got on. We even found seats. I couldn’t believe it. I wanted to cry.

The end.

Thanks for reading.
