¡Hola Manakin! I am currently reading the book in European Portuguese and also am not able to understand everything. I'd say I can get appr. 60 %. Because of this I decided to try a new method: 1. read a chapter in Portuguese, 2. listen to the same chapter in German, my mother tongue. You could even re-read the chapter in your target language after listening to the English translation. Hope that this method will help you :) see you in the book club 📙 (PS: you can add the book club topic [multilingual book club 01] as a topic to your post)
@Linda My original intent was to read a chapter in English, then a chapter in Spanish. I might still try to read along with the group, but I kind of think that staying with easier books for a while longer may be a smarter decision than reading something too hard for me at this time.
I am going to read the book in English because I think Spanish will be too difficult for me at this point. But I’m going to write my notes and thoughts about it in Spanish.
Dionna, it would be more useful to do what Manakin is proposing: read a chapter in English so that you have the context, and then read in Spanish - even if you don't understand everything. You'll be amazed at how much you learn.
@CocoPop thank you for the advice! I will definitely give it a try.
