Here we are! Just few days away from the holy month of Ramadan, and I'm super excited to finaly be there! For those who are probably wondering "what is he talking about?", let me tell you more about it. Frits and foremost, Ramadan is one of the twelve months of the islamic calendar (the ninth one to be fully accurate) and it’s by far the most important one!
Indeed, during this month which last either 29 or 30 days depending on the year, we as muslims are meant to fast from the rise of the sun all the way to its set. No food neither beverages is allowed during this specific periode of the day. Beside the food, we are also supposed to try our best to make good actions, help those who are in need, avoid to curse... in one word, be good persons.
If we think about it, by going through such a thought exercise, depriving ourselves for a whole month we are able to understand what poor peaople are experiencing on a daily basis abd to feel what they are undergoing! It's the kind of experience that hit you in the heart and makes you more aware about how lucky you are to have what you have actually!
More importantly, it’s the period of the year when people try to get closer and closer to their god, by dedicating all their free time to practices like reading the holy book, praying, going to the mosque and others behaviours we might usually neglect. In fact, there is a verse from the coran that says that during this month, god opens the doors of the sky and gives us the opportunity to erase all the bad things we might have done during the entire last year! That's why everyone wait for this month to catch up on all the missteps that as human being we inevitably do.
In my case, I'm not a super spiritual person to be frank. However, I adore Ramadan because it represents the part of the year when I eat every single evening at a table where all the persons I love are gathered! It means the endless nights we spend talking and laughing around tea and cakes and others delights we only do during this month. Moreover, it is almost the only time when the city where I live gets animated during the night! People go out until early in the morning and the cultural activity blows up!
When it comes to my health, I find that fasting during a month has a tremendous benefits! For instance, I usually have issue with my microbiome! Indeed, I tend to hardly digest some stuff and suffer from my stomac throughout the year. I have also some difficulties to maintain my weight, alongwith skin problems and others classic troubles. This is the case during the rest of the year, whereas during Ramadan I have almost no similar issue, which is stuning! In fact, it's not that amazing! You only have to type "fasting" on the internet to get overwhelmed by studies and articles that preach for this practice and show how benefic it could actually be!
Welp, that's it. For those who are interested in learning the deep roots of this holy month, I'm clearly the best person to give you that unfortunatly 😅. However, I wanted to tell you about one of the periode I love the most and why it's so important to me. I'm curious to know which periode or event you can't wait to be at?
Very interesting topic!
Thanks Marcel
Hi Achraf! I always admired people who could do this fasting, especially when Ramadan is in July when the days are long and very hot. I can't imagine not drinking on those days! In general, I think fasting can be really beneficial. Regarding those issues you're talking about, I think you probably should change your diet during the year. Maybe not fasting through the day, but probably the what and when you're eating something. Probably it might also be a good idea to consult a doctor. Other than that, I wish you a pleasant holy month of Ramadan!
Great post! Like @LindasLinguas, I think the most difficult part for me about fasting would be not drinking water. I could handle being hungry, but I feel like I always need to be drinking throughout the day. I have great memories of having dinner in Ramadan tents when I lived in Doha, Qatar. Perhaps it was a bit cheeky of me though to indulge in the feasting when I hadn't fasted!
I liked reading this interesting post.
Hi @LindasLinguas thanks for taking time to give this kind words and amazing advice ☺️. By the way, I saw a doctor and he said exactly what you mentioned 👏
@nomadicvegan I would love to hear more about the time you have spent in Qatar! It would be a great topic to write about 😁
Many thanks @CloudyDe 🙏🏼
Ramadan Mubarak
