Life is a marathon and its destination seems to be death. Imagine yourself dehydrated and exhausted after a long-distance trip, and you'll find the destination more of a resort than a jail. Your flesh is yelling for respite, yet your heart is pounding deafeningly as it gets closer and closer to the unknown and inscrutable finish line. I'd rather assume that the final reward is worth the lifelong effort, and that maybe there's a completely different and more exciting race awaiting us in the next world.

Perhaps a young person looks at life as exhausting and heart pounding. As someone who is getting closer to the finish it's not at all like that. I retired at 60 and will turn 80 next month. These years have been relatively comfortable, now more than ever. This is my reward and I don't expect anything more. It's fine that you believe that there's a next world because you'll never know if there isn't.
@Bennatan Wow, it's amazing to know that you're 79. I am pretty satisfied with my life at 25. The journal is just some random thoughts, haha. I'm looking forward to each day in the years to come, and hopefully I can find that inner peace like you when at your age. :)
Interesting. I "died" briefly briefly after a brain stroke at age 69, but came back thanks to good hospital care. The notion of "self" has changed. The way we define "self" can change with age.
@T-Newfields That experience must be life-changing. I guess your self got a new life and a new perspective since.
