In previous years I watched cross-country skiing with my father from time to time, but I didn't find it particularly interesting. However, this year I really enjoyed watching the sport. I found it especially captivating because I became a big fan of Jessie Diggins. She is a cross-country skier who is also an Olympic gold medalist and a four-time holder of the World Cup. She is an elite athlete and a great person. I took this impression of her while reading her memoir. I couldn't put the book down. Jessie is such a positive person. She has such a sunny personality even though she had to go through bullying and an eating disorder at the beginning of her career. She has struggled with her mental health. The eating disorder made her believe that she should restrict her diet at the expense of her health in order to become an Olympic winner. In her mind the diet restrictions went beyond the normalcy. She started to throw up what she was eating and did it more often. When she was on the edge of losing her life, she decided that she needed to get help, even though this step was also difficult. She turned to specialists that helped her get out of the situation. She overcame the situation and managed to become an Olympia winner. Some phrases that Jessie wrote in her memoir took a special place in my mind. These are the phrases “Yes, it really hurts, but I can handle it” and “Never ever give up!”. Invigorated by her inspirational book, I often say these phrases to myself, and it helps me when I am in a low place.
Very nicely written.
