Antique Fair

Last month, I visited a vintage market. It was so much fun that I'd like to share some photos with you.

Compared to the last time, there were even more people. If you're interested in the last vintage fair, click here.

I didn't find any old books last time, but I came across some of them this time.

I also spotted old LP records.

When I saw these dinosaurs toys, I thought my grandson would be very excited.

For some reason, Japanese people love American vintages.

I found old picture books this time as well. I almost bought one for my grandson, but I ended up putting it back. I think it's a bit too early for him.

The foreign picture book looked so cute, and I wish I could read it.

There were some hand-knitted items.

The picture below shows Japanese wooden dolls called kokeshi. I used to see them often when I was a kid, but I rarely see them these days. My parents still have some at home.

I nearly bought a teddy bear in a red dress to add my collections. She looked so cute.

I've collected several teddy bears from Steiff from Germany, and I spotted their antiques.

I was very curious about these tiny bisque dolls.

When I found the mushroom book, I was excited because I'm a huge mushroom fan, but I realized I couldn't read the language immediately.

There were even more American items.

This hamburger stand looked like it must be really good.

I bought two of the black lacquer-ware bowls.

I really think the aka-e bowl is absolutely stunning!

I enjoyed the fair so much and I'm already looking forward to the next one, which will be held in next April.

Here's a photo of what I bought: two lacquer-ware bowls made in the Meiji period (1868 to 1912), some 120-year-old postcards (I've written about them here) , and three blank porcelain pieces.

According to the shop owner I bought them from, the two of the small vases were made in the Occupied Japan period. (1945 to 1952)

I'm planning on decorating the bowls with maki-e lacquer art.
