This post is a continuation of the previous one.

I promise to write another post about my own analysis of two movies, I asked about in my previous post. Today, I'd like to explain why movies about the United States are so important to me. I hope it may be interesting to Americans. Maybe not.

I need to make another disclaimer. Everything written below only reflects my feelings and fears. I fully respect the right of Americans to choose their president and, as a result, their destiny. So, despite my criticism of Trump, I ask you not to take my words as an accusation: they're an explanation of my thoughts, even if they're expressed pretty straightforwardly. I beg your pardon in advance if my post crosses the red line.

Before Trump won in the last election, my anxiety was mostly focused on Russia's aggression against Ukraine. In my mind at that moment, the Russian government had been the worst source of Evil on our planet. Since the beginning of 2025, I regularly read, watch and listen to a lot of news, podcasts and programs about the United States and changes there. Most of this information concerns me very much. I consider myself European and I cannot ignore the menace to my new "homeland". (I mean not Poland - my new "home", but the entire European Union.) Moreover, I’m concerned about western civilization and the virtues it propagates.

You may call me paranoid, but unfortunately during the last 26 years I’ve watched Russia has migrated from a weak democracy to an authoritarian, chauvinistic empire with many traits of totalitarianism. All these changes were implemented gradually, but now Russia is a source of danger, sorrow, and corruption for many countries. Having this experience, I regard the American president and his deeds with great suspicion.

Because of my fear, I would like to have a better understanding of what is going on with Americans, their polarized society, and the best institutions of democracy in the world. Also, I should add that I'm observing very similar changes (in people's views and the actions of politicians) in Europe. So, this is a global change in people's worldview. However, the United States has much more influence on the world.

That's why I am really keen on watching movies, which analyse or express the social processes in American society.
