Some people think that it’s better to travel with a guide in a group than alone. In view of my own experience, I think that travelling with a group has more drawbacks than advantages.
If I travel with a group without a guide, it’s very important to me that the people in this group have similar interests to mine, otherwise we might disagree as on what attractions to visit and according to what schedule. The most interesting trips are with friends, and not with strangers.
When I visit a country I've never been to before and I don't speak the language, I prefer to travel with a guide who can resolve any issues that arise and provide any necessary information. Even so, I always try to find out as much as I can about the country beforehand.
However, if I want to visit a historical place, museum or art gallery, I prefer to buy a guide book and wander around the city on my own. That way, I won’t rely on a tourist guide’s schedule and will be able to choose for myself what attraction I want to visit and when. Additionally, it's always nice to discover new things on my own.
I think that the success of any group trip mostly depends on organization, the guide’s ability and the location. I like to travel with a group if it isn’t large and it's only with people I know. Otherwise, I prefer to travel alone so I can go where I want and when I want.
