Curry and rice, which was introduced from the UK during the Meiji period (1868 to 1912) has become very popular in Japan, and today both ramen and curry and rice are considered our national dishes.
Today, I'd like to introduce the curry and rice to you. It's quite easy to make.
First, I cut some vegetables such as onions, eggplants, and carrots and replaced them in a pot.
I added some seafood, chicken, and mushrooms.
Then, I poured in some water. After I simmered everything until the ingredients turned tender, I added some curry roux blocks. That's it!
The picture below is some curry roux blocks that you can buy at grocery stores. I've seen them at Asian markets in the States and the UK.
If you can buy those, you can easily make Japanese curry and rice at home. I like mixing two different brands.
I fried some sliced pumpkin, okra, and lotus root with an air fryer.
Now, let's make lassi: Just mix equal parts milk and yogurt with a little honey and that's it.
The picture below shows how I plated it. Crispy fried vegetables and handmade lassi make the curry and rice taste even better! Enjoy!!

I always see the curry roux in the supermarket, but I've never made it. Maybe I'll try it this weekend. Thank you for the recipe!
Thank you as always for the corrections. All my American friends love the Japanese curried rice that I made for them, so you'll love it too! Enjoy!!
So interesting that an Indian-inspired dish is considered a national dish of Japan. But it also happened in England--I believe that a national dish there is Tikka Masala.
@Ersatzjello I was thinking the same thing. Brits in videos are always touting their chicken tikka masala. I love Indian food.
@Ersatzjello Thank you for reading and commenting. That's very interesting! Tonight, I'll chat with my British friend and will ask about it. Thank you for sharing!
