I went incognito today when I left the house. Cosplaying has never been my thing. Actually, I kind of hate it, but today there was no avoiding it. For one thing, my freezer was so empty that it echoed when I opened it, and I also ran out of coffee, which is even worse.
The problem is, my doctor is also my neighbor, and insisted that I stay in bed until my fever broke. He saw me yesterday for free, so getting caught red-handed/sneaking out wouldn't be great. But I was dying for a cup of coffee, and this morning felt like going cold turkey, so I got dressed up and swanned out into the street without raising suspicion—I think. The wig and the nonprescription glasses did the trick pretty well, and I just pulled it off, though I won't be completely sure until I see him next time. I was so into the role that I called myself "Charlotte" a few times to give my characterization a more staid style.
Now I'm drinking the hottest, blackest coffee. It was definitely worth taking the risk. I'm just waiting for it to cool down as I write this with just one hand because the other is stirring it. Nothing smells like coffee.
Ah, what people will do for a good cup of coffee! My favorite blend consists of 1/4 chicory root, 1/4 dandelion root, and 1/2 quality coffee beans with a pinch of cinnamon, cacao, and nutmeg.
