Practice is Endless

I'd love to share my very new art piece with you here. When you look at this work, you might think it looks familiar. Yes, you'd be right! I've been practicing the exact same designs, such as traditional Japanese patterns and flowers, over and over again. Last time I painted this flower pattern on a sake cup. If you are curious about it, please feel free to take a look. (click here)

The porcelain is antique, which I found an antique fair in Kyoto six years ago. I bought two, but I regret I should buy more because it turned out beautifully.

You can see a Japanese helmet behind the vase. I'll also share the helmet with you here soon.

As usual, you can look at the step-by-step photos.

To be honest, painting upright objects like vases or sake containers is much harder for me because I can’t always hold them steadily while painting. So, this porcelain was perfect to practice my weak point.

I'm definitely improving on the flower section, while I still need to work on the very tiny Japanese patterns at the bottom.

The vase is about 11 cm ( 4.4 inches) tall.

I needed a wider screen for the vase, but the pictures below look nicely done!

Now, I've started painting the exact same pattern on the second sake cup, so you'll see the piece some time soon! This is how I master something. I've been doing the same things over and over again to turn my weaknesses into my strengths. It’s the same method I use for muscle training. Painting, working out or knitting are fun because I can see my progress, while learning language is much harder because I can't see it. Even so, I believe that practice makes perfect, so I keep going!
