My Homegrown Blueberries

by

gardening

I have three blueberry bushes and I bought them from my neighbor who has been running a blueberry farm. He advised me that it's better to grow them in pots, so I've been following his advice.

This winter, I replanted three of them into a larger sized pots, and in the spring all of them started budding.

I was excited seeing the buds growing.

One day they bloomed with lots of flowers. That means I might be able to harvest lots of fruit!!! Although I expected bees would help pollination, my roses which usually attract them hadn't bloomed yet, so I decided pollinating by myself. I used super tiny model q-tips for the job. It was a very authentic work.

Every time I finished pollination, I marked on the brunches with a piece of yellow masking tape. Thankfully, my efforts paid off! The artificial pollination worked, and they produced lots of fruit! Gradually, the fruit became larger and changed its colors.

In early July, I finally picked a very first fruit!

One of my bushes produce pink fruit. Maybe, I should call it pinkberry bush? It also bore some fruit. Pink ones aren't as sweet as the regular blue ones.

Now, every morning I'm enjoying picking a handful of berries. I usually eat them fresh, but I sometimes bake caked with them too.

I'll share my blueberry cake recipe sometime soon.
