Every year, I make orange syrup to use a specific type of citrus fruit called yuzu in Japanese. Since yuzi only grows in certain regions of China, Korea and Japan, it can be hard for you to find if you live outside of these areas. However, if you can find some oranges with a nice fragrance, they make a good substitute.
First, you make some syrup with these oranges. I've written about how to make syrup with lemon, so please use that as a reference (click here). The first picture below shows my homemade yuzu syrup.
Don't throw away the peels. You'll need them later for baking cakes.
The picture below shows one way to use the syrup. I enjoy making yuzu soda by mixing sparking water with the syrup. If you have some mint leaves, float them on top. It makes the drink look extra refreshing.
Next, let's make your homemade candied orange peels for baking. You scoop out the fruit from the leftover oranges.
You place the peels into a blender. That's it. You can make delicious homemade orange peels so easily. Note: unfortunately, you can't make candied lemon peels in the way because their peels are too hard.
Once your peels are ready, you can bake your homemade orange cake using them.
Preparation:
Bring the butter to room temperature
Bring the eggs to room temperature

100g unsalted butter
100g brown sugar

1 tablespoon of grand marnier (or any liqueur you like)
2 tablespoon of yuzu (or other oranges) syrup, extra syrup for brushing the top
The Instructions are the same as my homemade ginger cake. So, please use it as a reference (click here).
I've shared step by step photos here. Yuzu has a wonderfully unique aroma that many people love, so I'm sure you’ll fall in love with this cake too!

@Shauna Thank you! Yes, definitely!! Do you have oranges which have a good flagrance?
@Double-Zee I'm sure you'll love it! Don't use waxed oranges and please try to find organic ones!
