Last November, I planted a fig bush in my yard. Since then, I've checked its growth constantly. However, after even the weather warmed up, there were no signs of sprouting. I started feeling nervous. It seemed like dead. I was very disappointed, but I believed that it was still alive. So, I didn't throw it away. One month passed, but nothing changed. Two month passed, and it still looked the same. After three month, I asked my husband what we should do. He doesn't have much gardening experience, so he had no idea.
I almost gave up on the fig bush when I looked at its top part had turned black. I thought it completely dead. Even so, I still had a small hope. So, I sometimes watered it.
A couple of days ago, I saw it finally sprouting! I was so excited!! I immediately cut off the top.
The following day, the new leaves had grown larger. I don't think I need to worry about it anymore. It'll probably grow smoothly. I was amazed by the power of nature. I almost thought it was hopeless and gave up on it. I'm glad I stayed patient.
Another surprise came from my strawberries. They've grown so big and started sending out runners. Since I'm a quite beginner at growing strawberries, I didn't know that they did that. Some of the runners have already rooted and started blooming flowers. The flowers will turn into fruit. I'm amazed by their power to survive.
Every morning, I harvest a handful of strawberries. My husband and I feel so lucky! We've been having fresh strawberries every morning. I think strawberries love Japan's hot and humid weather. I've heard they won't survive the summer, so I'm already planning on buying new seedlings for the fall.
On top of that, my wild strawberries has also started blooming again. Since other plants have grown around them and are casting too much shade on them, I'm thinking of removing them to a sunnier spot. I like their tart flavor, so I'd love to grow them bigger.
Gardening never bores me. There are always new little dramas to experience, and going through them is so much fun! My plants constantly surprise me, and they are full of life. It feels like I receive energy from them. That's why I love gardening!!
