I get along pretty well with all the vegetables in my garden. I had a stormy relationship with tomatoes years ago, but we've finally come to terms. But with carrots... we have a love-hate relationship—I just love them and they seem to hate me. They're a whole different breed, tough from a very early age. I love everything about them: their color, their leaves, their flavour... but there's no convincing carrot seeds to germinate. I've tried everything: more water, less water, covering and uncovering them, with very little success. The fact that you have to plant them directly in the ground doesn't help either. They're exposed to too many changing weather conditions.
By the way, do you remember Bugs Bunny, standing up, nonchalantly leaning on something , and munching on a carrot ? You might think that the goal of this iconic look was to encourage children at the time to eat more carrots. But no, not even close. It's a parody of Clark Gable in the movie It Happened One Night (1934). This male character's performance "inspired" the creators of Bugs Bunny.
Interesting post! Thanks for sharing!
