Hello there! Today I'd love to share the very first harvest from my new garden. Last month, I wrote about planting tomatoes, eggplants, green peppers and cucumbers in my new garden. I knew they were growing, but with so many things to do, I hadn't been paying much attention to the veggies. Then, this morning, I realized that some of them had grown enough to be harvested. I picked a few cucumbers and an eggplant and was surprised at how large they had grown.
I also pulled some beets from a planter. Beets are quite rare vegetables in Japan even though they are really good for our health. So, I decided growing them myself. It's my first time planting them. Usually, vegetables grown in planters don't become big. They are compact looking, and I still need to learn how to take care of them. Next time, I'd love to plant them in the ground.
Anyway, I'm very satisfied with my harvest. It made my day!

Hello there! Today I’m pleased to share with you the very first harvest from my new garden. Last month, I wrote about planting tomatoes, eggplants, green peppers and cucumbers. I knew the veggies were growing, but with so many things to do, I hadn't been paying much attention to them. Then, this morning, I realized that some of them had grown large enough to be harvested. I picked a few cucumbers and an eggplant and was surprised to see how large they had grown.I also pulled some beets from a planter. Beets, even though they are a really good, healthy food, are quite rare in Japan. So, I decided to grow them myself. Usually, vegetables grown in planters don't grow to be very large and indeed my beets are too compact. I will need to learn how to take care of them. Next time, I’ll try planting them in the ground. As it is, I'm very satisfied with my harvest. It made my day!
I understand your joy very well. Growing things at home is like witnessing little miracles every day.
Hi, @Coral. Absolutely ! How are your tomatoes going? Mines are still green and it'll take a little bit more time to grow enough.
Hi, @yumiyumayume. My tomatoes are doing fine. No casualties so far.😀 Although I've noticed some yellowish leaves on the lower part of the plants. I just bought a moisture meter because I'm not sure if I'm watering them too much or too little. The weather has been crazy lately. They're all still green, but some have gotten pretty big. With any luck, I'll be able to eat some soon. Thanks for asking.
Good evening, @Coral. Glad to hear that your tomatoes are growing so well! I really think the moisture meter is a wonderful idea. Here we are having rainy season now, and I need one too! Thank you for reminding it. I'm sure you can't wait eating them! How's the weather there?
Good evening,@yumiyumayume. The weather is pretty hot now, but throughJune we've had rainy days, windy days and even some cold days. It's crazy.
.Yes ! I can't wait to taste them. I'm growing a new variety of tomatoes called "óptima". They're like nothing I've ever tasted before. Hope the bugs don't get to them before I do....
Hi, @Cora . Your tomatoes sound yummy! I'd love to taste them too!
I'd love to invite you. We could exchange tomato seeds. : )
That would be great! I'm willing to accept your invitation. I'll bring a bunch of my homemade stuff including umeshu. We can throw a party with them. Woohoo!!
Oh, my goodness, umesshu! Okay deal, but I'll just drink a little.😂
No worries. I can't drink either. I have a pretty much low tolerance to alcohol.
