I almost have finished my latest piece, which is an order from my customer. He told me that his acquaintance, who has been working as a master sake brewer, recently won first place in a sake competition. To celebrate this wonderful achievement, my client wanted to gift something special. He, himself is also a master sake brewer at a different sake brewery. The symbol of his brewery is cherry blossoms, and his acquaintance's brewery uses a deer as their symbol. So, he asked me to design a sake cup featuring a deer and cherry blossoms.
When I first received the order, I thought it would be challenging to create. However, once I started painting, it was fun. I designed a deer with several cherry flowers and used a red paint called aka-e. I added a slightly modern touch into the traditional aka-e. I love the combination of gold and red because it looks sophisticated.
My piece still needs one more firing because the center part looks a bit dull. Probably, I'll add something to that area to make the painting look more interesting. Once the piece is finished, I'd like to share it here.
