There are ladybugs all around the world. They're easy to spot in the countryside, gardens and parks because they don't hide. These cute insects spend most of their time looking for food, and their bright colors are a way of saying “Hey, I’m poisonous!”— but the truth is they're not, although they do have a nasty taste that deters predators.

Generally, ladybugs are independent insects, but they gather in groups to hibernate. By being together, they protect each other from cold weather in the winter, and this also makes mating easier when they wake up in early spring.

They mostly feed on aphids, so they act as a natural insecticide, since they are really greedy. In fact, in some places, ladybugs are used to control infestations of other insects—no wonder they're considered a sign of good luck. So If you like gardening and have trouble with aphids, don't pull up the dandelions. Ladybugs love them.
