Being a Native Bilingual

1. Is either language more difficult for you than the other in general? In certain situations or contexts?
2. Do both languages exist separately in your mind? How long of a "bridge" do you have to cross to stop thinking in one language and start thinking in another?
3. Are you able to distinguish between bilingual English-Spanish speakers since birth and bilingual English-Spanish speakers who learned English once they started school? What are the signs?
4. Is there a shift in how people treat you once they realize that you speak x language?
5. Do you have to work to keep up with trends in casual Spanish speech/slang (since I assume you don't live in a Spanish-speaking country)?
6. Did growing up bilingual give you an advantage over people who grew up monolingual when learning new languages? Or was it not an advantage but just different?

The Field of Editing

1. What kind of editing do you do?
2. In what industries have you been an editor?
3. Have you worked freelance? What kinds of clients did you have?
4. Have you ever studied either of your native languages to gain a deeper understanding of them? What's it like to study your own language versus studying a foreign language?
5. Tips for giving feedback diplomatically?
6. Since both English and Spanish have such wide regional variations, do you edit according to a particular dialect?
