This man--Sami Birwala, if Samuel rightly recollected his name after so long--would refuse the chair that Samuel's father offered him with a kind gesture every time, and just sit on the carpet like a smiling Buddha. Samuel was usually playing somewhere in the room during these visits, and several times he thought he saw the family cat quietly perched on Birwala's left shoulder. After so many years, he told to himself this was bound to be a misrepresentation brought about by his own meandering memories--as a matter of fact, weren't picture cards with animals his pet toy in those years? One of them had a cat in bright colors, perched on a tree much in the guise he remembered the family cat perched on Birwala's shoulder. Only the cat in the picture was smiling.
