As I mentioned in a previous post, the RAE has increased the volume of words in its already chubby dictionary, but that's not all. It has also pulled up its socks and given its website a fresh makeover. You'll find a bunch of useful online resources there: dictionaries (current and old), grammar and spelling, all the corpora and the RAE online database. The new interface gives even more protagonism to word searches, which is pretty much where we all end up most of the time. The new design also includes a section with links to the mobile applications so that users can download the iOS and Android versions of the tool to teir devices.
The "word of the day" section is still a part of the site, and today's word is "septo," which I honestly have no idea what it means, but that's okay. I've gotten used to not always fully understanding my own language, just like I do with English. Even more so now that RAE has gone all out and added thousands of new words.
That's all well and good, but I wonder if by 2026 (the date they're supposed to release the next update with twice as many words as they just added) they'll manage to come up with a more meaningful translation for "feedback" than "retroalimentación,” which, in its simplest sense means "feeding something or someone from behind” — an expression that honestly leaves me thinking, to say the least. Oh, and let’s not forget — the grudge I hold against them for removing the accent from "sólo" back in 2010 is still alive and kicking.
Muy buena la publicación @Coral y la ironía. :)
Gracias, @druida. Al César lo que es del César, pero darle un poco de caña no está de más. : D
