I'm writing this in English because I don't have the time to write in Spanish (and I don't know any other languages, because I'm a very typical US Gen-Xer.)
I've been searching for things to correct this morning, and I keep finding what are essentially advertisements in journal form from writers who speak English and aren't learning any other languages. Hmm. I wondered if this also happens in other languages?
I do plan on returning to writing in Spanish this week, if I can find the time. My life has become a bit hectic lately, and I'm not finding "me time" very often. Nonetheless, I have realized that this is probably going to be the situation for at least another year or so, and if I really want to improve my Spanish, I will have to figure out a way to take the time for myself. So there!
Please feel free to correct my English, of course, and I'm really interested to know if others have seen advertisements passing for journals in their native tongues.
I've seen them in English only, although bear in mind that the only languages that I can read are English, Spanish, and Portuguese. As for Journaly's monitoring them, that might be difficult to do. From a purely word standpoint, it's hard to think of keywords that would give an advertising account away as such. In other words, it's not the individual words they use but the message they send that reveals them as advertisements, which is something that AI (to my knowledge) can't derive.
Yes, I've noticed that too. I wish there was a way we could notify Robin of these entries so he can block them. Like a "report" button. I clicked on one of the links by accident because I thought it was a correction of a word. I was curious to see what the person's correction was. I hope I don't get spam now. Thanks for bringing this up.
Hi everyone! Thanks so for raising this issue, I do try my best normally to monitor the posts and remove any spam, but it's quite difficult to do so it's really helpful and appreciated when users report things 🙏🏼 In the future I'd like to build a "report" button, and we also have a couple of wonderful moderators who I'd like to build more tools for so that people are more empowered to help us keep the community healthy. For now, you can always feel free to email hello@journaly.com and I'll try to act as quickly as I can to remove advertising content.
Thanks for being amazing members of Journaly and helping to make it better for everyone!
Thanks, Robin. I'll send you guys a note with the ones I see. Moreover, thanks so much for giving us this space to write!
