I really loved the idea of this platform, so I wanted to try it out.
I almost aced my TOEFL, but I'd had little to no interpersonal interactions in English. I'm very shy, and it's difficult for me to try and talk to people online without knowing them first, and, to be honest, it's very awkward to speak in english with people I talk to regularly in Portuguese. Because of that my listening and reading comprehension are phenomenal, but my writing is still kind of awkward and feels weird, and my accent is very heavy.
Because I'm in a science program for college, I have to understand scientific English, and my personal interests for TV shows and videos are very hobby-focused, which leaves me in a sort of limbo between formal and informal speech patterns, and makes me shy away from trying to write and speak even more.
This year, I decided to take my language learning more seriously, as in the past few years I basically just dabbled in a few languages. To do this properly, I think the best way to start is by getting more confident in my conversational skills, and consolidate a proper way to communicate both in formal and informal settings. Which brings me here! I look forward to writing here, and helping as much as I can!
Hello Bia, I like your piece, it's very enjoyable. I guess, your plan is very clever
. As for speaking, your phone can help you. I have come up with this hack, I call it "fake podcast". I record my voice on my phone as a talk about a topic; it's a brainstorming hack too, because I got ideas more easily than via writing. Strange. I need to talk to something or somebody, and my phone won't judge me.
@Nonka It's a very good idea! I'll try soon and see if it works for me. Thank you!
That was actually really well written! Good work!
