Hi everyone!
How are you doing? Do you know that feeling, when you have to study language for your certificate or test and you feel completely unmotivated? Now I feel like English is the worst thing ever and when I see my grammar book or listen any English podcast I feel like I hate English. I would say my level is around B2 which is fine for me. But to reach C1 is completely different stage of language learning. Do you have any tips how to find studying for my test a little bit more fun? How to enjoy English again as it was before?
Because now I fell in love with German, I have amazing system which works for me, and it is for me lovely time to spend time with German. But on the other side, I have to study for my C1 test and I do not want to give up on German. I will be grateful for any tips, any recommendations or anything. Happy language learning everyone and see you later :)
Hi Mia! Your English is sounding great--little phrases like "the worst thing ever" and "a little bit more fun" go a long way to make you sound more like a native speaker.
I absolutely hate studying language in the traditional way--I've found that doing flashcards and studying grammar completely destroys my motivation and makes me want to quit. My solution is to just focus on the things I enjoy. I read books, listen to podcasts, and watch shows in my target language, and I only stop to look up vocabulary and grammar enough to be able to understand it. There's research showing that these types of activities are great for building vocabulary and fluency, which is nice, but the more important thing for me is that it allows me to stay motivated.
Maybe that's not the right solution for you, since there might be specific vocabulary you need to learn for your test, but I think it's worth setting aside some time for these types of activities so English can feel fun again. Good luck, I hope the test goes well! :)
Hello, you might hit the intermediate plateau. It feels like you don't progress and therefore you lost the enthusiasm to study the language, but keep going and one day you'll wake up as the advance language user. I also suggest finding a speaking partner, someone who will empower you and help you stay consistent.
Title correction: motivation for language learning.
Thank you all for support and help 😊😊
