Does everything fit?

Melinda likes to do everything right. Before she repaints the black door, she watches painting videos on Youtube. And so she knows that she has to remove the old paint, or at least roughen it up, and that the surface then has to be dust-free and dry.

She reads through the paint shelves in the DIY store and makes a qualified choice of the right paint and the matching brushes and rollers. Of course, she has covered the floor and works with the window open.

And so, just as expected, the door looks really good afterwards.

Jens could have been at least a little impressed, but he only crosses the corridor flying blindly on his way from the computer to the TV. „Go ahead if you want, but leave me out of it“, he had said.

Now the door is white, just like the other three that lead off from the small corridor. Only now, the other three doors no longer look white, but rather eggshell-coloured.

Somehow that doesn't work! Now, finally, everything has to be right and match. So the other three doors have to be painted as well. The same job three more times. But Melinda is not one to give up halfway and only days later, all the doors are really white and match. How beautiful!

But the walls - well, two of the corridor walls are painted in different shades of orange. That's almost acceptable, except for the fact that the other two walls, the ones that used to be white, are now just light grey compared to the four freshly painted doors.

What now? Should she repaint these walls too? But if she repainted the corridor walls now, would the bedroom walls perhaps only look ashen afterwards?

Just now Jens is creeping down the hallway, growling because he has to walk around the ladder and muttering something about “renovation mania”.

Actually, he needs a repaint too, Melinda thinks, and realises that moving out would also be a way to escape the ashen walls.
