I watched a video a couple weeks ago where I finally found out the key for reaching a C1 level. The video taught me that it's not necessary to learn tons and tons of words in order to reach that level, but rather just a matter of finding the words you need. Using this method, you'll learn only the things that you definitely would use. Pretty easy right? Well actually, it's not that easy because for one thing, you have to choose where you'd use the new vocabulary and then, find all the words that you need. The problem is that in most cases, we tend to write down the words that we find in Google Translate without realizing that in most cases, the literal translation may be wrong, or may have a meaning different from that of the word we're (actually) looking for. I'll give you an example of something that happened to me with the word "plot". I started using this word very recently after hearing the term "plot twist" in an interview. The problem is that I knew the meaning of "twist" and I just entered the word "plot" in Google Translate, which literally translates to "gráfico", and everything got confused. Of course, I entered the entire phrase and I cleared up my doubt, but I realized that there are a lot of specialized words and phrases out there that can make me struggle like that. To avoid those kind of mistakes, you have to use the context as a basis for finding the correct meaning of each word or phrase. Taking all these factors into account, I started learning new vocabulary that has to do with my career, and although the filmmaking has a vocabulary which is extremely similar to general business vocabulary, there are a couple of specialized words that are inherent to that profession, same as in the film direction, or even in acting or performance.

The way I've been finding all those new words is pretty simple; I watch some interviews with filmmakers that I admire and I extract all the keywords that I really need, and then I put all of them in a list of phrases in order to learn them in context.
