Hello everyone. I've just watched a Robin's new video and I want to say that I'm impressed of the idea of this website. I'd like to become a part of this website therefore I'm going to tell you how English language changed my life. (for the better ofc)
I was an average student who doesn't want to learn English at school. After graduating the school I apply to the Maritime College and I decided to dedicate my life to working at sea.
I'd been studying at college for 2 years not thinking about English at all, before I found out that I was going to have a working practice on the ship. Fortunately I have my uncle who works on a great ship, but there was one problem - I needed to know English. I had 5 months to brush up on my English and be prepared to be able to talk.
I'd been spending all my time after the college to learn English. By the time I fly to the ship I knew English not that good as I wanted. I guess I had B1 level without speaking skills at all. So throughout the first month I was kind of in shok, because ther were a lot of non native English speaker and everyone had the different accent. I spent the first month just to get what they talk about. The second month went more comfortable I would say, but I still wasn't able to have a proper conversation with someone.
This trip for 2 month gave me a lot of willpower to go on learning English. I know where I need to seek and what goals I need to reach.
I've been learning English deeply for half an year and I guess I've reached the B2+ level and I feel comfortable at speaking, but that's not enough and I think I'll be learning English throughout my life.
English changed my life at all.
First of you opened the horizon of people from all over the world, people who have the mutual interest with you.
I don't know it's true or not, but I've heard that learning languages make you smarter. For me it's true. Before learning English I didn't even have interests. By today I'd become a polyglot (I really fell in love in love in learning languages) and I've started to be interested in self development
The big point of learning languages is well-paid job. Working in my country you won't earn enough money. So I'm going to try to find a job abroad next summer.
I hope someone will find this interesting. Thanks for your patience to read this hah.
I could tell how I learn English. Let me know in the comments
Marco
Hi Marco. Congratulations on all of the hard work you've put in to learning English. Your story is inspiring and I hope one day to reach as high of a level in Italian as you have reached in English. Happy New Year!
That's great ! How did you learn English ? I'm interested. Do you have any advice for me to improve myself ? Happy New Year^^
Hi Shiink. Happy New Year!! You've found a lot of mistakes in my letter and I started to realize that I'm not that good haha. Thanks for your time to emphasize my mistakes, I really appreciate it. I'm sure you'll reach the highest level of Italian. Good Luck!
You're VERY good, @Marco. Communication is the goal, not perfection, and your message was very clear. I hope you'll write more. I'd love to hear about your experiences at sea. : ) I'm a native english speaker, @MysterZarbi. I am new to language learning, but have found that listening to the same piece of audio content (podcasts, audiobooks, etc.) several times has helped me. Good luck!!
Interesting post! I guess a lot of us find that we enjoy learning languages after learning our first foreign languages and keep studying more. When I studied Japanese I only listened to native audio and later when I was put in a class with other students I could not understand their accents at all. I was very surprised because they were using simple grammar and vocabulary just like me. But I quickly adjusted and now I can understand non-Japanese speakers speaking Japanese a lot better. Sometimes better than Japanese people do.
Hello Marco! I just had the pleasure of reading and editing your essay. If you have any questions, please let me know. I'm a professional editor and translator and I can explain things really well))) Good luck to you in the new year and may your English improve by leaps and bounds! 👍🏼
Guys, I'm so grateful to have a feedback. @CocoPop Thanks for your comment. You're so good at editing. You didn't quite understand one thing. I wrote: "I'd become a polyglot". I actually didn't mean it. I meant that I'd like to become a polyglot. Thanks for wishing. I wish you all the best in 2021! @MysterZarbi I'll write a new post about how I learn English tomorrow.
OK, I fixed it!
