I guess different countries have different styles of lunchtime.
In Japan, office workers often spend their lunchtime in two main ways.
First, eating out with colleagues, second, buying or bringing some food to the office and eat it on their own.
I originally liked to have lunch at the office so I could enjoy more me time and spend less money.
However recently I’ve been eating out more often as I’m aware that spending lunchtime at the office is sometimes more annoying than I thought.
In our work place, you will find lots of people working even during the break.
Some keep working without eating anything, others just finish the meal in 10 minutes and return to their work and I don’t really feel comfortable with such situations.
I think the work life balance should be more improved in Japan.
Nice topic. Actually when we started homeoffice, what I missed most was the cantine. I love it to be able to eat withouth having to cook myself and to talk to nice people while eating.
Thank you for your comments :) You’re right. Actually I have recently realized that I’m enjoying spending my break time with my colleagues, talking each other and having a relaxed time. It’s fun and refreshing to eat out and I ended up stopping making lunch by myself.
Same here in the U.S. Eating at one's desk is common. It isn't encouraged, but it happens because we have so many meetings.
Thank you for your comments :) That’s so true. So many meetings and reports to make everyday!
