My mother was born in 1957 in Uljin, Kyongbuk Province, which is located on the east of Korea. Her name was 거만, meaning that her mother didn't want a daughter anymore; She's changed her name. She went to the middle school until the first year. And then she moved to another rural town, Youngdeok, which is well known for crabs with soy sauce.  

After graduation of the middle school, She started working right away in a factory which makes clothes. Because she was the second child among 6 siblings, she needed to make money. In addition, she didn't have right opportunities of high education like other past people. However, her brothers took high education, and they became a police officer and a prosecutor. She always said to me, "If I born again, I'll study overnight, go to college to become a nurse .I'm sure she'd be a competent nurse by her good memory.

When she became twenty, she decided to live in Seoul, the capital of S. Korea. The first job was a ping-pong coach. She cleaned the working place every day and played ping-pong with customers. But she didn't get any salaries from her employer. The reason was that she was from rural area and was too pure that she believed her boss would pay salaries to her someday. As time was going by, she had to move to again another city, with not getting the money.
