A major earthquake struck Japan again. Yesterday, a magnitude 7 earthquake hit Kumamoto Prefecture in Kyusyu. So far, we haven't received many details about the extent of the damage, how many people have been killed or injured, or how many households have lost electricity and other essential services.
After the earthquake, a shopping mall exploded and the second floor collapsed. Because of that, seven or eight people were killed and another twenty to thirty people are still missing.
This shocking news broke my heart because ten years ago, two major magnitude 7 earthquakes struck the same area. I've experienced several severe earthquakes, so I feel deeply sorry for the victims. The area is probably as hot and humid as where I live, so I can't image how difficult to live without air conditioning is. Some evacuation shelters must be super hot if the area has lost the power. People are fearing aftershocks and can't sleep well. Many people must be under stress. We'll receive more details tomorrow.
All I can do is to pray for the area. I sincerely hope people in the area can find safety and peace again as soon as possible.
