Useimmille unettomuus tarkoittaa sitä, että uni ei tule heti, tai sitä, että he heräävät aamuyöstä eivätkä saa enää sen jälkeen uudelleen unta. Minulle unettomuus on kuitenkin absoluuttista. Se on täydellistä kyvyttömyyttä vaipua uneen edes hetkeksi. Sellaiset ihmiset ovat sietämättömiä, jotka valittavat väsymystä, koska ovat nukkuneet vain neljä tuntia. Neljä! Minä antaisin mitä vain neljän tunnin unista. Aiemmin minäkin olin hyvä nukkuja. Nukuin yöt ajattelematta niitä lainkaan. En tullut koskaan edes miettineeksi, miten peloton nukahtavan ihmisen täytyy olla. Kaikki kuitenkin muuttui eräänä yönä - olen kertonut tämän tarinan monesti, sillä ihmiset haluavat aina tietää, mistä unettomuuteni johtuu. He haluavat kuulla syyn, sillä he todella kuvittelevat, että elämässä kaikelle on aina olemassa jokin selitys. Tarinasta tulee kerta kerralta parempi.

For most people, insomnia means that they can't sleep right away or that they wake up in the early hours and then can't sleep anymore. For me, however, insomnia is absolute. It's the complete inability to fall asleep even for a moment. People who complain about tiredness because they've only slept for four hours are unbearable. Four hours! I would give anything for four hours of sleep. I used to be a good sleeper before, too. I slept at night without thinking about them at all. I even never happened to wonder how fearless a person who falls asleep must be. Everything, however, changed one night - I've told this story many times because people always want to know what causes my insomnia. They want to hear the reason because they really imagine that there's always some explanation for everything in life. The story gets better every time.
