Äiti lopetti puhelun pettyneenä, eikä kysynyt Charlotten kuulumisia. Charlotte istui puhelin kädessään pimeässä huoneessa. She had to take everything with a grain of salt because, in a group of drunkards, her mother had learned to tell a lie and manipulate when the situation required it.
