Säikähdin varmaan turhaan, Karri päätteli lopulta. Olin puoliunessa ja kuvittelin turhia niiden uhkaavuudesta. Niillä oli jotain asiaa sille, joka on muuttanut tästä, ja niiden käytös oli tökeröä, siinä kaikki. Hän nousi ja meni kurkistamaan jääkaappiin. Siellä oli puolikas tölkillinen maitoa, pullo tomaattisosetta ja paketti margariinia. Olisi sittenkin pitänyt eilen käydä kaupassa, mutta hän olikin innostunut kehittämään ottamiaan mustavalkoisia kuvia. Äskeinen pelästys tuntui yhä niin voimakkaana, että oli aivan turha yrittää palata nukkumaan. Hetken mietittyään Karri puki ylleen. Korso oli kuulemma yöllä levotonta seutua, mutta jotain syötävää oli nyt saatava, se auttaisi pääsemään uudelleen uneen. Ja sitäpaitsi ulkona tuskin liikkuisi sen kummallisempia ja pelästyttävämpiä ihmisiä kuin nuo, jotka äsken olivat pyrkineet tänne.

I was probably startled for no reason, Karri concluded in the end. I was half asleep and imagined useless things about their threatening. They had something to tell somebody who had moved from here, and their behavior was clumsy, that was all. He stood up and went to peek into the refrigerator. There were a half carton of milk, a bottle of tomato paste and a pack of margarine. After all, he should've gone to a grocery the day before, but he was also excited about developing the black-and-white photos he had taken. The previous fear still seemed so strong that it was totally useless to try to get back to sleep. After thinking for a while, Karri got dressed. It was said that Korso was a troubled area at night, but he needed to get something to eat at the moment, it would help him get back to sleep. Besides, there were hardly more strange and frightening people outside than those who had just strived to come here.
