Karri nousi, sijasi vuoteen ja avasi sälekaihtimet, sitten hän meni takaisin sängyn päälle. Hän kuunteli kun Kirsikka tuli keittiöön. Hän ei noussut, että tyttö saisi rauhassa pukeutua. Hän kuunteli askeleita ja muita ääniä. Tyttö sijasi vuoteen, veti verhot ikkunasta. Oli hauskaa, että asunnossa oli joku, ja vielä hauskempaa, että se oli juuri Kirsikka. Tyttö oli kiinnostava kuin ristisanatehtävä, hän tuntui olevan täynnä arvoituksia. Tyttö kolisteli nyt keittiössä, valmisti kahvia. Suodatin pulputti hauskaa ääntään. Isä oli joskus väittänyt, että se jutteli ystävällisiä: huomenta, minä tässä teen teille juotavaa ilahduttaakseni teitä. Karri ei pitänyt kiirettä. Hän mietti mitä kaikkea sanoisi, mitä kyselisi. Sitten ulko-ovi kolahti. Yläkerran koirat haukahtivat kuullessaan sen.

Karri stood up, made the bed and opened the blinds, and then he went back on the bed. He listened when Kirsikka came to the kitchen. He didn't stand up so that the girl could get dressed in peace. He listened to the steps and other sounds. The girl made the bed and pulled the curtains from the window. It was nice that there was somebody in the apartment, and even nicer that it was Kirsikka. The girl was interesting like a crossword puzzle; she seemed full of mysteries. The girl was now rattling around in the kitchen, preparing coffee. The filter made a funny bubbling sound. His father had once claimed that he talked in a friendly way: Good morning, I'll make something to drink for you to make you happy. Karri didn't hurry. He wondered what he would say, and what he would ask. Then the front door slammed. The dogs upstairs barked as they heard that.
