Karri oli joskus sanonut Mikalle, että menisi sänkyyn tytön kanssa vasta kun oikein kunnolla rakastuisi. Mika oli katsonut melkein säälien, kuin olisi ymmärtänyt, että toinen vain yritti selitellä. Karri arveli itsekin, ettei kysymyksessä ollut mikään erityinen periaate, vaan se että rakastuneena ehkä sitten uskaltaisi. Mikalla oli melkoinen määrä tyttöjuttuja, jotka hän oli luottamuksellisesti selostanut. Karri hymähti muistaessaan ne. Jos Mikan tarinoita alkoi ajatella niin menivät nukahtamismahdollisuudet, oli parempi miettiä vaikka englannin epäsäännöllisiä verbejä. Mutta Karri ei ajatellut pitkään niitäkään. Yö alkoi tiivistyä hänen ympärillään ja muuttui uneksi. Hän heräsi kun aamu oli jo pitkällä. Aurinko paistoi verhojen läpi huoneeseen. Suihku kohisi, Kirsikka oli siis herännyt.

Karri had once said to Mika that he would only go to bed with a girl when he really fell in love. Mika had looked at him, almost pitying him, as if he understood that the other was just trying to explain. Karri himself supposed that there wasn't any particular principle in question but that when he fell in love, he would probably dare. Mika had quite a few stories about girls that he had told in confidence. Karri snorted when he remembered them. If he had begun thinking about Mika's stories, then the possibility of falling asleep would've gone; it was better to think about, for example, irregular English verbs. But Karri didn't think about them for a long time. The night began to deepen around him and turned into a dream. He woke up when the morning was well advanced. The sun was shining into the room through the curtains. The shower was running so Kirsikka had woken up.
