Daddy long legs

It will be my review of the book from Jean Webster, the 1990's anime and the movie from 1955.

First, I have to tell, I am a big reader. I bought a kindle few years ago and I continue to read than before, but more. A kindle is a wonderful thing for people who loves reading but can't take books anywhere they wants. I can read in my bed, in the bus, in the train, when I am waiting in my doctor's room... With it, I can read at least one book per week, so 52 per year.

  • Daddy-Long-Legs (novel) I started with it, of course, at the source ! It's an epistolary book, even though it start with a writing chapter. We are following Jerusha Abbott, an orphan little girl. The oprhanage is completely dependant of charity of rich people. One day, one of them read a letter she wrote and find it funny, and decide to send her to university. The only thing she has to do, is to write to her benefactor one time a month, to explain him her days, lessons etc. But she write a lot, and she told him EVERYTHING. Even when she is fell in love with someone. For this part, it's funny, I will not spoil anything, but really... Poor girl haha.
  • My Daddy-Long-Legs (anime)

Okay, my FAVOURITE. I loved the little Judy (not Jerusha in the book) she is a little and enthousiast redhair (like me, maybe it's the point I like her that much?) who have so much dreams, but she is stuck at the orphanage. But a good man decide to send her to university. At this point, the anime follows the book, but she tried to see who is this gardian angel. She can't see him, only his back, but she see his shadow on the wall, the long legs and his stick. And she decide to call him "My daddy long legs". My favourite person in the anime is Jervis Pendleton, the tall blond hair man, the uncle of her friend Julia Pendleton. This man is perfect, handsome and an angel, a real gentleman.

  • Daddy long legs (movie)

I LOVE old movie, from the last century. I always thought men were more virils and real gentleman, and ladies were more feminine and knew how to dress better while remaining elegant. So it was obvious for me to watch this movie. For real, it was good, in general it followed the book, but one time was enough. I really like Fred Astaire in it, I really think he was charismatic, but it didn't follows enough the book for me I think... They took too much liberty maybe, even if it was a really good movie!

I know Jean Webster wrote a sequel to Daddy Long Legs, called "My dear enemy". She met a friend at the university, who is called Sallie McBride. And this friend will succeed the director of the orphanage where Judy spent her entire life. I need to read it in english because I don't think it have been translate in french... It will be a good exercice I guess !
