Sunnuntai oli kuin varta vasten ulkoilijoita varten suunniteltu: lempeä muutaman asteen pikkupakkanen ja aurinko, joka hehkui täysin pilvettömältä taivaalta ja hehkui valkoisilla hangilla. Hellevi oli herännyt varhain ja käynyt ulkona kävelemässä pian auringon noustua. Takaisin kotipihaan ehdittyään hän oli jäänyt hetkeksi seuraamaan talitiaista, joka oli pysähtynyt aterioimaan omenapuun oksaan kiinnitetylle lintulaudalle. Siitä Pertti oli hänet yhyttänyt, toivottanut hyvät huomenet ja kehunut taas säätä, maininnut vielä, että hänkin mielellään seurasi pihapiirin pikkulintujen puuhia.
