A Small Town vs. a Big City

I was born and raised in a small town and then moved to the big city, so I know about the pros and cons of living in a small town versus the big city. I’ve never thought I'd like living in the big city, but after ten years of living here, I can’t imagine going back to my home town.

Both the big city and small towns have certain problems with transportation. If you live in a small town, you need to have a car because here, as a rule, there's no public transport. Large cities have a lot of traffic, so there are a lot of traffic jams, especially in during rush hour when people are commuting to work. But people here can choose to use public transport if they wish. It's cheaper than owning a car.

I like/enjoy the bustle of the big city. In small towns, life is slow. In big cities, you have to adapt to various situations such as finding out how to get somewhere or having trouble getting tickets to see your favorite band in concert. Another interesting feature of big cities is the availability of various cultural events and attractions. There are lots of theaters, movie theaters, music and night clubs.

There's also a lot of diversity among the people who live in big cities. For example, LA has an enormous number of people of different nationalities, cultures, religions and different interests. It's impossible to be bored here. You can find something new to do here every day.

Small towns are safer than big cities without a doubt, but I prefer to be a bit more careful in the big city than to die of boredom in a small town.
