Anu sormeili kuorta, mutta ei halunnut ryhtyä lukemaan sitä ihmisten ilmoilla. Hän lähti maisemaravintolasta, hyppäsi pyöränsä selkään ja ajoi Hallavaisen asunnolle. Siellä hän avasi kirjeen, mutta totesi sen lukemisen aiheuttavan niin valtavan tunnekuohun, että sen edessä hän olisi aivan suojaton. Hallavainen ei ollut tullut vielä kotiin. Anu käveli baarikaapin ohi ja huomasi kuin vahingossa, että Xantéa oli vielä puoli pulloa jäljellä. Hän otti lasin ja kaatoi sen pohjalle hiukan uutta lempijuomaansa. Sitten hän haki kaksi jääkuutiota ja lisäsi ne lasiin aivan kuten Jarkko oli tehnyt.

Anu fingered the envelope but didn't want to start reading it in public. She left the scenic restaurant, jumped on her bicycle and rode to Hallavainen's apartment. There she opened the letter but found that reading it would cause such a huge rush of emotion that she would be quite vulnerable in front of it. Hallavainen hadn't yet come home. Anu walked past the liquor cabinet and noticed, as if accidentally, that half a bottle of Xantéa was still left over. She took a glass and poured a bit of her new favorite drink to the bottom of the glass. Then she brought two ice cubes and added them to the glass just as Jarkko had done.
