Aulan lattia oli niin kiiltävä, että sitä olisi voinut käyttää peilinä. Katto oli korkeuksissa, ja kolahdukset ja askeleet kuuluivat kovina kaikuina. Ihmisiä kuhisi aulassa. Oli päivä, ja ihmiset olivat ahkerasti liikkeellä. Edes tauti ei saanut heitä pysymään kotonaan. Muutama ikääntynyt ihminen istui odotuspenkeillä, pukumiehet kävelivät ristiin rastiin aulaa näyttäen tärkeiltä ja kiireisiltä. Muutama ohikulkija kiinnitti huomionsa Mikaeliin. Hän hymyili lyhyesti portinvartijalle, nyökkäsi päätään ja jatkoi matkaansa. Aulan perällä sijaitsi rivi tiskejä. Niillä punaiset numerot vaihtuivat mustalla taustalla. Numerot näyttivät vuoron ihmisille, jotka edelleen asioivat raha-asioissaan pankeissa, internetin, mobiilien ja muiden älylaitteiden sijaan.

The floor of the lobby was so shiny that it could've been used as a mirror. The ceiling was high, and clunks and footsteps were echoing loudly. The lobby was buzzing with people. It was daytime, and people were moving diligently. Even the disease didn't make them stay home. A few elderly people were sitting on the waiting benches, and men in suits were crisscrossing the lobby, looking important and busy. A few passers-by were eyeing Mikael. He smiled at the gatekeeper briefly, nodded his head and went on his way. At the end of the lobby was a line of counters. The red numbers on the counters changed in the black background. The numbers indicated the turn of people who still dealt with their money issues in banks, instead of using the internet, mobile phones and other smart devices.
